KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) launched the One Leader One Village Programme (Santuni MADANI) in Kampung Palu-Palu, Kuala Penyu, Kota Kinabalu which was chosen as its adopted village today.

PHB, a property investment company and a subsidiary of Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra (YPB), chose the village as its adopted village under the Santuni MADANI Programme as it is synonymous with PHB's Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit, who is a native of the village.

Mohamad Damshal said through the programme, PHB was able to support the villagers by focusing on educational and socio-economic development.

"PHB is committed to helping improve the well-being and living standards of the villagers through education programmes. At the beginning of the programme, PHB has allocated educational assistance worth RM50,000 consisting of extra class assistance for core subjects to more than 50 students and an Al-Quran recital class for 43 children and adults living in and around Kampung Palu Palu.

"The extra class programme initiative focuses on subjects such as Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and History for sixth-year students, candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia examinations," he said during the launch of the Santuni MADANI Programme which took place at Sekolah Kebangsaan Palu-Palu.

In addition, he said the assistance would also be channelled to Al-Quran recitation classes for children and adults, to strengthen their understanding of the Quran.

Meanwhile, he said the Santuni MADANI Programme is a long-term effort, where PHB will continue to be directly involved in engaging with the village community to address socio-economic issues such as education dropouts to ensure that the younger generation gets good educational opportunities because education is the key to improving the socio-economy of individuals.

"Santuni MADANI, introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to empower the potential of villages and enhance the capacity of the community.

"This initiative involves continuous engagement between leaders from government-linked companies (GLCs), government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government agencies to understand local issues and solve problems faced by residents.

"Indirectly, leaders can give back to the people through this initiative. PHB hopes that this effort can bring positive changes to Kampung Palu-Palu and serve as an example for other villages in realising the vision of Malaysia MADANI," he said.
