LABUAN, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- A 51-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly exceeding the permitted limit after being caught with over 400 litres of diesel, valued at RM130,933.81.
He was detained at 1.30 pm during the Ops Tiris 3.0 Kita Gempur operation by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) enforcement division at a petrol station in downtown Labuan.
“The enforcement team found the man filling diesel into an additional storage tank installed in his lorry.
“The excess diesel was stored in the unauthorised metal tank without a valid permit or written approval,” KPDN Labuan director Junaidah Arbain told Bernama today.
The man was taken in for questioning under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122) for failing to provide valid documentation authorising his possession of the controlled item.
“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Act for possession of controlled goods with intent to commit an offence,” she added.
She also warned that individuals convicted under the Act face fines of up to RM1 million for a first offence and RM3 million for subsequent offences or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
Companies could be fined up to RM2 million for a first offence and RM5 million for subsequent violations.
“KPDN remains committed to curbing the misappropriation and illegal storage of fuel. We urge the public to comply with regulations to avoid severe legal consequences,” she added.
