KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) – Converse Malaysia (Converse MY), in collaboration with the National Art Gallery, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA), has launched the 'Creative Exploration' initiative to empower young artistic talents in the country.
The launch event, held at the National Art Gallery today, was officiated by the Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
Shamsul Iskandar said that this collaboration is an important step in strengthening grassroots art culture and promoting the local creative arts ecosystem in line with the MADANI principles.
"Art is not only an expression but also a form of communication that can unite society and enrich our culture.
"I understand that Converse's initiative this time is a brilliant one, not only as a platform for exposing young artistic talents but also as an opportunity for more senior artists to share their knowledge and experience," he said in his speech during the official programme launch, here today.
Shamsul Iskandar believes that in the future, more students from universities across Malaysia will be able to participate, making the platform more inclusive and competitive.
Through the 'Creative Exploration' initiative, art students will create their own creative works using Converse's 'Chuck Taylor' shoes as the primary material.
The artworks produced will be showcased at the Art Depot, National Art Gallery, from Feb 28 to April 12, before selected pieces are displayed at Converse’s flagship stores around the Klang Valley.
In addition, 'Creative Exploration' also helps to enhance the position of the National Art Gallery as a hub for contemporary art, as well as promote UiTM and MIA as institutions that nurture quality creative artistic talent.
This initiative is part of the global LOVE, CHUCK campaign, which combines the worlds of fashion and art to celebrate limitless creativity.
