KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is emerging as a primary pathway for building a skilled workforce, driving economic growth and expanding job opportunities beyond borders, according to Yayasan Mahir Malaysia.
The skills foundation’s president, Datuk Sri Ganes Palaniapan, said TVET offers an alternative route for students who may struggle with traditional subjects but excel in technical and practical skills.
“Expanding access to TVET and introducing more industry-aligned programmes are crucial to addressing student dropouts from the conventional education system,” he said at the recent launch of the Siemens Digital Industrial Training Academy at the Perai Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Penang.
The event, officiated by Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, also saw a Memorandum of Agreement signed between SG TVET Group and the Manpower Department (JTM) to strengthen collaboration in vocational training.
Ganes, also the chief executive officer of SG TVET Group, said TVET provides foundational training and opens opportunities for entrepreneurship and lifelong skill development, allowing individuals to advance in various industries or start their businesses.
He added that TVET qualifications, now internationally recognised, offer a competitive edge in the job market.
“For example, the Siemens Digital Industrial Training Academy provides a dual certification from Siemens and JTM, giving TVET graduates a stronger foothold in the workforce,” he said.
