11/03/2025 08:26 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) -- Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd, the national sewerage company, hosted its first-ever Ramadan Carnival at IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam, creating a vibrant marketplace and new opportunities for small traders.

IWK chief executive officer M. Narendran said the move was in line with the government’s efforts to empower community entrepreneurship and strengthen the people’s economic foundation, as outlined in  the MADANI Economy policy.

“This programme is part of IWK’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), where we provide opportunities for more than 30 traders, mostly residents around IWK Eco Park, to do business during Ramadan.

“The response has been encouraging as IWK Eco Park is surrounded by many housing estates, including the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) scheme. Many visitors came, making it convenient for residents to buy breaking fast meals while offering small traders a well-organised and strategic business platform at reasonable rates,” he told Bernama.

In support of the initiative, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stopped by the carnival to mingle with traders and buy food.

Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, along with Narendran and IWK staff, distributed 500 food packs to local residents for breaking fast.

Narendran expressed hope that the activities held today would support small traders and local residents while fostering a stronger bond between IWK and the community.

“Holding the carnival in a spacious covered parking lot ensures comfort for traders and visitors, with ample parking facilities available.

“The IWK Eco Park Ramadan Carnival is happening from March 2 to 29, and we welcome everyone to drop by and enjoy the greenery,” he said.
