PASIR PUTEH, March 13 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has allocated over RM20 million this year for its Convertible Education Financing Scheme to assist underprivileged students in pursuing their studies at public or private higher education institutions.
YBR chief executive officer Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani said the scheme offers financing with low interest rates and can be converted based on set conditions. This initiative provides opportunities for students from low-income families to pursue higher education without being burdened by high costs.
“Last year, we provided interest-free loans to over 400 students, and more than two-thirds completed their studies.
"We also provide the option to convert these loans into scholarships for students who achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 or higher,” he said after the YBR School Assistance Programme with ‘Persatuan Insan Istimewa Kelantan’ (Insani) at the Pasir Puteh Education Training Centre here today.
Meanwhile, YBR also contributed RM6,300 in assistance to support 63 families of students with disabilities in preparing for the new school term, which began in mid-February.
“Our mission is to help those in need, particularly in rural and remote areas as well as urban communities facing poverty.
“This support focuses on alleviating the burden on parents of students with disabilities by providing essential school items such as clothing, stationery and other necessities," he said.
YBR also donated RM5,000 to Insani to support its long-term initiatives for assisting the disabled community.
This includes providing livelihood support, purchasing medical equipment, and encouraging education for children from families with disabilities.
