KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- The Institute Jantung Negara (IJN) College has officially been elevated to IJN University College (IJNUC), following approval from the Ministry of Higher Education on May 13, 2025.
The status elevation affirms the institution’s capabilities as a premier centre for advanced education in cardiovascular, allied health, and healthcare management sciences.
IJN Holdings, in a statement, described the elevation as a significant milestone in the institution's growth and readiness to train the next generation of healthcare professionals.
“Established in 2008, IJN College was founded to address Malaysia’s increasing demand for specialised education in healthcare.
“As a member of the IJN Holdings group alongside the internationally renowned IJN, Malaysia’s premier and internationally recognised heart centre, the institution offers students real-world training guided by leading specialists and healthcare professionals,” the statement read.
IJNUC’s flagship programme, the Graduate Certificate in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences, has produced over 400 graduates, many of whom are now serving in the healthcare sector, both locally and internationally.
To date, the institution has graduated over 600 healthcare professionals, reflecting its academic excellence and industry relevance.
With its new status, IJNUC has received MQA approval to introduce three new degree-level programmes namely the Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular Technology (Hons), a Bachelor of Nursing Science (Hons) and a Diploma in Nursing, which will commence in the September 2025 intake at its Yayasan Selangor campus, adjacent to IJN Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Looking ahead, IJNUC also plans to expand its academic programmes to include Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Technology, Bachelor of Pharmacy (Franchised), and Bachelor of Physiotherapy; MSc in Cardiothoracic Surgery, MSc in Health Psychology, and MSc in Healthcare Management; and a PhD in Healthcare Management.
In line with IJNUC's clinical strengths, it is also establishing postgraduate medical programmes in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, paediatric cardiology, and anaesthesiology, reinforcing its role as a training ground for Malaysia's future medical specialists.
Beyond academic programmes, IJNUC offers short courses, certifications, and consultancy services, including Patient Care Assistant, Cardiac Nursing, Ergonomics, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) to support healthcare professionals’ development.
“This milestone reaffirms IJNUC's commitment to developing skilled, compassionate, and future-ready healthcare professionals, aligned with the national goal of accessible, high-quality, specialised healthcare education,” it added.
