Kowloon Walled City Returns To Life In Immersive Exhibition At Historic Site

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Once infamous for its dense labyrinth of alleyways and its reputation as a lawless enclave, Kowloon Walled City has captured imaginations worldwide.

Now, the spirit of this legendary place is being vividly reimagined through “Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey” — an immersive exhibition launched on May 23, at Kowloon Walled City Park, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) in a statement.

Billed as Hong Kong’s largest movie set exhibition to date, the three-year installation recreates key scenes from the 2024 action blockbuster Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.

Visitors can walk through detailed replicas of 1980s alleyways and shopfronts — from an old-school tailor shop to a bustling fish ball factory — offering a nostalgic and cinematic glimpse into the city's gritty past.

Held at the Yamen within Kowloon Walled City Park, the free exhibition is open daily. It not only serves as a tribute to the Walled City’s cinematic legacy but also acts as a springboard for deeper exploration of Kowloon City’s rich cultural and historical landscape.

Beyond the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to explore nearby landmarks such as the centuries-old Hau Wong Temple and the Cattle Depot Artist Village, a creative hub housed in a former slaughterhouse.

They can also discover ancient relics at the Sung Wong Toi MTR station or indulge in local culinary gems like satay beef French toast alongside yuen yeung (a mix of coffee and Hong Kong-style milk tea) at Lok Yuen and roast goose at Lok Hau Fook.

For those in search of retail therapy, Kowloon City offers everything from vibrant Thai street markets to futuristic shopping destinations like AIRSIDE and Kai Tak Mall.
