KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (MATFA) has called on the government and relevant tourism agencies to provide greater support in promoting Malaysia's theme park industry as a key pillar of the national tourism strategy ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
Its president Tan Sri Richard Koh said the association is ready to play a major role in attracting both local and international tourists to the country’s vibrant theme parks and family attractions.
“Malaysia is home to a wide array of world-class theme parks, edutainment centres and family attractions that offer memorable experiences for all age groups.
“With VM2026 around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase the best of what we have to offer - from thrilling rides and water parks to cultural experiences and edutainment zones,” he said in a statement today.
MATFA is also seeking strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Tourism Malaysia, and relevant state governments to include major theme parks and family attractions in VM2026 promotional materials, travel itineraries and tourism campaigns.
“...offer tax or promotional incentives to operators to enhance guest experience and affordability, as well as promote Malaysia as a family-friendly destination in regional and global markets,” he said.
MATFA, which is supporting the ongoing Malaysia Mega Sale 2025 Campaign, believes that with the right support, the theme park and family attractions sector can significantly boost tourist spending, create job opportunities, and contribute to Malaysia’s tourism recovery and growth post-pandemic.
The association and its members are currently preparing a series of value-added packages, special events, and cross-promotions leading up to VM2026 to enhance visitors’ experiences and promote a longer stay.
“We are ready to work hand-in-hand with the government and private sector to ensure VM2026 becomes a tourism milestone for Malaysia. Together, we can make Malaysia the preferred family holiday destination in South-East Asia,” he said.
Established in 2001, MATFA represents theme parks, water parks, playlands, arcades and family entertainment centres across Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
The association promotes healthy recreation, industry standards, and tourism development through collaboration and advocacy.
