03/07/2025 05:53 PM

IPOH, July 3 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Ekonomi Islam Perak Sdn Bhd (PSB) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dindings Poultry Development Centre Sdn Bhd (DPDC) to develop a breeder chicken farm in the state.

PSB chairman, Datuk Dr Ansary Ahmed, said the strategic partnership through PSB aims to enhance the food security agenda under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan and aligns with the decree of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, to strengthen the state's strategic role in national food security.

He said the MoU will facilitate the development of a 16-hectare breeder chicken farming complex, with an additional 60 hectares identified for future expansion.

"This strategic collaboration involves developing PSB-owned land into an integrated poultry farm encompassing grandparent stock, parent stock, and commercial broilers using modern closed-house systems, with technical expertise from DPDC.

"The project also aims to ensure a stable chicken supply for the local market, including for export, and to strengthen the overall national poultry supply chain," he said during the MoU signing ceremony here today.

PSB is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk), while DPDC is a subsidiary of Dindings Tyson Sdn Bhd (DTSB), a joint venture company between Malayan Flour Mills Berhad (MFM) and Tyson International Holding Company.

The MoU was signed by PSB group chief executive officer Amirul Hakim Abdullah and MFM deputy executive chairman and managing director, who is also DTSB executive chairman Teh Wee Chye, witnessed by Ansary and MFM independent director Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Mahamad Zain.

Ansary said the project is expected to generate job opportunities for the local community and boost economic growth in the agriculture, logistics, and related service sectors.

"This initiative demonstrates PSB's commitment to spearhead the ummah's economic development and aligns with the royal mandate to establish Perak as a national agri-food hub.

"This collaboration is just the beginning, and we believe more strategic land assets can be mobilised to enhance the country's food resilience," he added.

Meanwhile, Teh said the collaboration with PSB would enhance their upstream poultry farming capabilities and expand DTSB's operational footprint in Perak.

"We view this partnership as a long-term investment that will significantly impact not only business but also national food security and community development," he said.

He added that the PSB-DPDC collaboration is expected to contribute to the national goal of achieving a Self-Sufficiency Level (SSL) of 140 per cent in chicken meat production by 2030.

This also reflects the ongoing commitment to the growth of a sustainable and competitive national agri-food sector, he said.
