MYFuture Jobs Recognised As Digital Employment Model At OIC Workshop

08/07/2025 05:22 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Bernama) -- Homegrown job-matching platform MYFutureJobs has been recognised as a model digital employment platform among the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries, today.

Speaking at the OIC Workshop on Empowering Job Seekers: Digital Platform Best Practices, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the platform has achieved a successful job placement rate of 60 to 70 per cent annually since its launch in 2020.

“On average, the platform offers between 1.5 million and two million job listings each year, registering about 500,000 jobseekers. From January to May this year, MYFutureJobs recorded 111,459 registered jobseekers, more than 633,000 advertised vacancies, and over 74,000 individuals placed into employment.

“These numbers matter because not only are we fulfilling our role as a public employment services provider, but the big data collected over the years also provides valuable insights into labour market trends,” he said in his keynote address at the two-day workshop hosted by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) here today.

Sim also clarified that the remaining 30 per cent of registered users who did not secure employment should not be considered unsuccessful, as many of them were using the platform to explore opportunities rather than actively seeking jobs.

He noted that MYFutureJobs, powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and real-time data, has improved job placements by efficiently matching jobseekers with employers, while also helping to bridge skills gap and future-proof Malaysia’s workforce.

Sim said with various initiatives by the ministry and the MADANI government, Malaysia’s unemployment rate has dropped to a 10-year low of 3.1 per cent, while underemployment has improved by 34.3 per cent.

However, he cautioned that while AI enables growth, augments productivity and transforms the nature of work, it also carries risks, including the potential to increase the efficiency of criminal activities and scams, as well as disrupt labour markets.

He reiterated the ministry’s last year report that approximately 600,000 jobs would be impacted by AI in the next three to five years, but at the same time, hundreds of thousands of new jobs might emerge via AI.

Sim later witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoU) between Perkeso and the State Employment Agency (SEA) of Azerbaijan, as well as the Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR), after officiating the workshop.

Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, Perkeso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal emphasised the urgent need to combat the growing threat of job scams, which exploit jobseekers and erode public trust in digital employment platforms.

“Combating such fraudulent practices requires a coordinated approach involving strong cybersecurity measures, public awareness campaigns, verification mechanisms and timely enforcement.

“Through robust cooperation and the exchange of best practices, tools and strategies, OIC Public Employment Services Network (OIC-PESNET) member countries can more effectively tackle job scams. This collaborative effort will secure our labour markets, protect our citizens, and maintain the integrity of our employment systems,” he also said.

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) director-general Zehra Zumrut Selcuk noted that OIC countries have a significant labour force presence, with a combined population exceeding two billion.

She said their share in the global labour force has increased from 19 to 21 per cent over the past decade.
