Water Tariff For Domestic Users In Terengganu Up Eight Sen Per Cubic Metre

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Domestic users in Terengganu will pay 8 sen more for each cubic metre of water till 20 cubic metres per month starting yesterday.

Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn Bhd (SATU) chief executive officer Abdul Karim Endut said with the new rates, the minimum use charge for domestic users has risen to RM6.60 a month, but noted that the subsidised 20 cubic metres of water per month for each B40 household in the state will continue.

“Water use at mosques and suraus registered with the Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department will continue to be borne fully by the Terengganu state government under SATU.

“For houses of worship and welfare institutions, existing tariffs will be maintained to support them,” he said in a statement today, adding that existing subsidies have risen from RM2.5 million to RM3.0 million annually.

A total of 75 per cent of industrial and business users will see an average hike of RM1.24 a day, which is still reasonable and competitive compared to other states, he said, while water supply for use on board ships docked at ports in the state will use rates applicable throughout Peninsular Malaysia, RM8 per cubic metre (without electricity charges).

Water tariff for data centres have been standardised throughout Peninsular Malaysia at RM5.30 per cubic metre (without electricity charges), he added.

Abdul Karim explained that the Tariff Setting Mechanism that took effect yesterday had been agreed upon by the Cabinet on July 25, after it received an application from SATU, and that the new tariff reflected the state government’s commitment to tackle water supply issues comprehensively.
