KOTA KINABALU, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The conferment of state honours and medals by the Sabah Government to two staff members of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today is an important recognition of the agency's efforts in disseminating accurate information in support of Sabah's development.
The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, conferred the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) on Bernama Sabah Bureau chief Fadzli Ramli and the Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK) on Bernama Sabah Bureau photographer Zamain Singkui at a ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu here, which saw 151 recipients receiving their awards in the second session today.
Another Sabah Bureau staff, Datuk Emin Madi was earlier conferred the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which carries the title Datuk, during the first investiture ceremony held on June 22, in conjunction with the 74th official birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.
Fadzli, who has been with Bernama for over 15 years, described the award as not only a personal honour, but also a recognition of Bernama's crucial role in Sabah's media landscape.
"This award is a huge responsibility for me to ensure Bernama remains a trusted source of information among the people of Sabah. This ADK is not mine alone, but a recognition for the entire Bernama Sabah team who work tirelessly,” he said after the ceremony.
He added that the award would be an incentive for the entire Bernama Sabah team to raise the quality of service in delivering accurate and up-to-date information on the rapid development that is taking place in the state.
Meanwhile, Zamain, who has been with Bernama for over 30 years, described the BSK as a historic moment in his career and which gave a deep meaning to the profession of visual journalism.
"Throughout my service, I have only focused on producing quality photographs that can visually convey stories to the people.
"This recognition proves that the role of photographers in delivering information is just as important as news writing,” said Zamain, who has produced thousands of photographs related to Sabah's development.
