Mohd Na’im To Seek PM’s Advice On Tabung Haji's Transformation Vision

02/09/2025 06:49 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The transformation vision of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) from a syariah-compliant savings institution into an Islamic investment institution will first be referred to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

The minister said he would request TH’s management to brief him on the matter before meeting Anwar.

“Of course, I will seek advice from the Prime Minister, and ultimately, we will get his views and guidance.

“As the minister (of religious affairs), I will personally convey what is meant by this (vision) to the Prime Minister, and he is certainly concerned about TH. In any case, I will definitely refer it to him (Anwar),” he told reporters after attending the 2024 Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) Excellent Service Award and ‘Jasamu Dikenang' ceremony here today.

Mohd Na’im said the transformation vision aimed to establish TH as a more dynamic Islamic investment institution, thereby strengthening its role in safeguarding depositors’ interests and contributing to the ummah’s economic development.

The media today reported TH Group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain as saying that the transformation vision was expected to fundamentally change TH’s business model, enabling it to offer more sophisticated and investment-oriented financial products.

Commenting further, Mohd Na’im said the proposal reflected Abdul Rashid’s aspirations, noting that he had a clear understanding of the institution’s direction.

He said in terms of haj management, TH had demonstrated excellence, having received the ‘Labbaitum’ award from the Saudi Arabian government for four consecutive years.

However, he said, from the standpoint of investments and savings, TH’s founding principles and policies must be reinforced to ensure the institution remained strong.

Mohd Na’im stressed that every action taken by TH’s management and Board of Directors must guarantee the interests of depositors and the institution’s sustainability, in line with the established guidelines.

“This is the foundation and principle that must and shall be adhered to by the chairman and TH’s managing director and chief executive officer (Mustakim Mohamad), along with the entire board of directors,” he said.
