SEPANG, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will present the latest Gaza peace plan framework proposed by the United States (US) to the Cabinet for discussion.
He said that most Arab countries have agreed that the priority is to stop the violence, ensure the independence of Palestine, including Gaza, and expedite humanitarian aid.
"I don't think the framework of the peace plan will meet our (Malaysia's) aspirations, especially in defending the principle of justice for the Palestinian people.
"But it is still a start. It's very meaningful, namely to end the violence and occupation of Palestine, and the urgent humanitarian aid must be expedited,” he said.
He said this at a media conference after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) here today.
It was reported today that Palestine welcomed efforts by US President Donald Trump to end the ongoing war in Gaza, while reiterating its commitment to work with Washington and other involved parties to achieve peace.
Yesterday, Trump announced a 20-point plan to end Israel's war on the besieged Gaza Strip during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The plan includes the release of Israeli captives in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners, complete disarmament of Hamas, and the formation of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee to govern the enclave.
Anwar said the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, with 34 Malaysians among activists from 45 countries, carries a clear and meaningful humanitarian message.
"The conflict, tyranny, massacre, killing, oppression and destruction that are happening in Gaza have opened the eyes of the world to the meaning of humanitarian justice,” he said.
He also rejected the assumption that the younger generation is not following developments in Gaza, and instead described the participation of youth in previous gatherings as proof that they were sensitive and concerned about the Palestinian issue.
