KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- "Wait for further information from the command centre."
That was the message still fresh in the mind of Haryati Hamzah after the last conversation with her husband Mohd Zulfadhli Khiruddin, one of the 34 Malaysian participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, before the vessel he boarded was detained by Israeli forces near Gaza waters.
According to the celebrity host, who is also known as Yatt Hamzah, in a conversation via the Signal app after Isyak prayers yesterday, Mohd Zulfadhli informed her of an imminent interception and that he, like the others, would then have to throw his mobile phone into the sea to prevent the system from being hacked by the enemy at large.
"Beyond that, he too was in the dark about what would happen next. He just told me to wait for further information from the command centre. After that, I didn't receive any more updates," Yatt Hamzah said when contacted by Bernama.
Yatt, 45, said she managed to send her husband a video of their children, which made him emotionally torn after being apart for over a month since Zulfadhli left for Spain on Aug 27.
She said the children also miss their father, especially the second and fourth children.
“Every day without fail, they ask about their father’s condition. I try to be strong in front of them so they don’t get too downcast,” she said, admitting that she chose not to follow developments on social media for fear of being influenced by unofficial information, relying instead on official channels and prayer.
“I believe he is safe. Every day, I perform special prayers like solat hajat and berzikir so that the Almighty will make all things easy. He carries my spirit along with him as I myself am a humanitarian activist,” she said.
Meanwhile, the sister of celebrity preacher PU Rahmat, Nur Rahimah Fitrah Mohd Sofyan, 35, said the last update from her younger brother was through a voice recording sent at 4.45 am Malaysian time.
“He managed to send a voice recording stating that his vessel could not proceed as it had been detained, that's all… I'm not sure if anything happened after the voice note.
“We are all aware of the risk they are taking, but their intention is clear, to help fellow human beings in a humanitarian crisis. We believe the government is doing its best and we ask that this effort (mission) be expedited and facilitated,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nadzmi Adhwa, the husband of actress Ardell Aryana, urged the public not to spread unverified information regarding the condition of his wife, who is part of the flotilla.
In a post on Threads, Nadzmi said that there were no reports of torture or gunfire and asked all parties to remain calm and to continue to pray.
“Since Ardell's emergency live broadcast (SOS) this morning until now, I have not received any update about my wife. I’m still puzzled,” he said.
As of 1 pm today, the Sumud Nusantara Control Centre (SNCC) confirmed that 12 Malaysians were detained after their vessels entered the R3 red zone, about 100 nautical miles off the Gaza coast, while five others were reported to have lost contact with SNCC.
