Ampar Tenang PPR Ends Over Two-decade Wait, Delivers Homes To 167 Families

06/10/2025 12:50 PM

DENGKIL, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The RM88 million Ampar Tenang People's Housing Project (PPR) ends a more than twenty-five-year chapter of anticipation, finally delivering new homes to 167 families.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari described the project as symbolising the successful state-federal resolution of a resettlement issue dating back to the development of Putrajaya in 1998.

“We have managed to resolve an issue that persisted for more than 25 years. It began around 1998 or 1999 with the construction of Putrajaya, which involved farmers from Prang Besar who were temporarily relocated.

“The state government tried to help by maintaining and managing the temporary settlements, even spending approximately RM1.5 million.

“However, those temporary houses were in rather bad shape,” he told reporters today after presenting letters of offer for the project, which was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.

Amirudin stated that the handovers will be conducted in phases, pending the completion of commitment fee payments, inheritance issues, and the installation of basic utilities like water and electricity.

“They only need to pay between RM20,000 and RM50,000 to own an asset valued at RM145,000. I believe this represents a highly successful outcome for residents who have been waiting for over 20 years,” he said.

He also described the success of the Ampar Tenang PPR as the best Deepavali gift, given that the majority of the families are from the Indian community.

Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said KPKT will continue working closely with state governments, local authorities and communities to ensure an inclusive, holistic and liveable development agenda for the well-being of the people, regardless of background or political ideology.

In a statement, KPKT clarified that the 167 eligible participants who received offer letters today were selected based on their payment records for their previous low-cost houses at Taman Pertama and completion of documentation related to name changes or inheritance matters.

The Ampar Tenang PPR project, developed on a 30-acre site, comprises 404 single-storey terrace houses. Each 700-square-foot unit is complete with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the wider residential area is equipped with basic facilities such as a community hall and shared open spaces.
