06/10/2025 01:33 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Budget 2026, to be tabled on Friday (Oct 10), will focus on critical projects to address issues related to floods, water supply and energy, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, hopes that issues related to the cost of living will also be given special attention under the budget this time, considering the government strives to help the people during uncertain economic times.

"The focus this time (under Budget 2026) is more towards helping our people. Critical projects, flood issues, water supply and energy issues affecting everyone, as well as support for them,” he said.

He told reporters this after the launch of the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo 2025 (NICE 2025) at the World Trade Centre here today.

He also expects the government to continue to pay attention to education and health, which are usually important core aspects of every budget presentation.

Commenting on the allocation for Sarawak, Fadillah expects Budget 2026 to continue to pay attention to the state and Sabah.

"I'm confident that under the government and leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and due to the sheer size of Sabah and Sarawak, the existing annual allocation will surely be increased,” he said.

In addition, he said every state also hopes to get an appropriate allocation not just for administration, but also for projects that can alleviate the problems faced.

Anwar, also the Finance Minister, is scheduled to table Budget 2026 in Parliament on Friday (Oct 10).

The Prime Minister had previously said that preparations for Budget 2026 would be aligned with the economic priorities of each state, rather than being determined solely at the ministerial level.

The approach is to ensure steady economic growth without neglecting the needs of the people, particularly in coping with the cost of living.
