PM’s Support Driving Force Behind Gaza Humanitarian Mission – Sani Araby

09/10/2025 12:54 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his unwavering support and assistance towards the humanitarian mission to champion the plight of the Palestinian people.

Sani, who is also the director-general of the Sumud Nusantara Command Center (SNCC) said the Prime Minister’s encouragement has been a source of strength for Malaysian activists participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2025 voyage to Gaza.

“Before we began our journey, we thought the Prime Minister would decline the proposal because the mission seemed impossible.

“However, after reviewing it, he said just one word, ‘proceed’. That became the strength and spark that launched this mission,” he said in his speech at ‘Himpunan Solidariti Bersama Gaza’ held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, tonight.

He also shared that the Prime Minister had shown deep concern for the safety of Malaysian activists, frequently requesting updates while they were on the mission.

He said Anwar had personally communicated with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to seek international support for the release of Malaysian volunteers detained by Israeli forces.

In his speech, Sani Araby also proposed that the second wave of the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza be mobilised through Egypt, with the Prime Minister’s consent and backing.

“I humbly seek Datuk Seri’s permission for the Malaysian Sumud Nusantara team to be deployed to Egypt to deliver the second wave of aid to Gaza.

“We know Datuk Seri has an extraordinary relationship with the President of Egypt and can play a role beyond our reach,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cinta Gaza Malaysia chief executive officer Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman said the Global Sumud Flotilla voyage had opened the eyes of the international community to Malaysia’s strong commitment to global humanitarian causes.

He said several countries that had issued official statements of support for the Global Sumud Flotilla have since expressed interest in collaborating with Malaysia on future humanitarian initiatives to Gaza.

“They have faith in Sumud Nusantara and want us to lead the next movement. Let’s all do it the Malaysian and Nusantara way,” he said.
