Touch ’n Go, STAR Systems Demonstrate MLFF-Ready Tolling

09/10/2025 11:31 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Touch ’n Go Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with STAR Systems International (SSI), has successfully demonstrated Malaysia’s Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) Proof of Concept (PoC), marking a significant step towards barrier-free and smoother travel for Malaysians.

The MLFF knowledge-sharing session brought together stakeholders and industry partners to experience how global tolling technology integrates with Malaysia’s payments ecosystem, Touch ’n Go Sdn Bhd said in a statement.

It said the company has locally developed and customised its Titan Flow technology to meet Malaysia’s tolling infrastructure needs, supported by Touch ’n Go eWallet’s 24 million electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) users for secure verification.

The SOS Balance feature has already benefitted more than 13 million users since its launch earlier this year, ensuring road users can pass through tolls seamlessly and reload within 24 hours, it said. To date, RM39 million has been paid to highways on behalf of users with insufficient balance.

RFID adoption in Malaysia continues to grow, with 21 per cent of road users’ transactions today made via RFID. Touch ’n Go said this reflects increasing confidence in seamless digital tolling, adding that RFID remains the foundation of MLFF as Malaysia moves towards barrier-free travel.

SSI showcased its global expertise with the Titan Pro reader and Avior antenna, supported by SIDRA’s PARSEC lane controller and advanced sensors, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and 3D LiDAR. The technologies, validated internationally, have been approved for use in the E-ZPass tolling system in the United States and certified at an OmniAir-authorised test track in Texas.

SSI Chief Technology Officer Stephen Lockhart said The Titan Pro and Avior were developed for high-speed, multi-lane tolling and, when integrated with Touch ’n Go’s platform and SIDRA’s system, the project demonstrated the successful implementation of MLFF in Malaysia.

“We are proud to partner with Touch ’n Go in turning this vision into reality,” he said.

Touch ’n Go Chief Executive Officer Praba Sangarajoo said: “Touch ’n Go has been a trusted partner to Malaysia’s highways for almost 30 years.

“With nationwide RFID adoption and an MLFF-ready system, we are fully prepared to deliver tolling that is seamless, reliable and future-ready. Made for Malaysians, by Malaysians, this solution reflects our deep commitment to the nation. Beyond technology, it represents our promise to ‘Driving Malaysia’s Mobility Forward’.”

The initiative aligns with Malaysia’s digital mobility agenda, including the Open Payment Toll Collection System, which enables toll payments via debit and credit cards on selected highways.

While Open Payment expands options, RFID remains the backbone technology for barrier-free, high-speed MLFF.

“With nearly 30 years of operational experience, Touch ’n Go continues to invest in tolling technology to support the transition to MLFF, building on sustained development, testing and local capability-building,” the company said.

The collaboration, it added, illustrates how Malaysian expertise and global technology can deliver smarter, faster and more efficient tolling.

Touch ’n Go said it is ready to support the government and industry partners in nationwide MLFF adoption and shaping Malaysia’s next chapter in mobility.
