Grab Merchants In Melaka Earn Over RM135 Million In 2024 With Digital Technology

10/10/2025 02:59 PM

MELAKA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Grab merchants in Melaka earned over RM135 million in 2024, driven by the growing use of digital technology among local traders to strengthen their competitiveness and boost the state’s economy.

Grab Malaysia Commercial and Deliveries director Tan Jiong Jian highlighted that this achievement demonstrates how technology and innovation can empower communities, support the gastrotourism sector, and reinforce the state's economic resilience.

At Grab, our mission is to empower local businesses by providing the tools, knowledge, and financial access they need to thrive in today’s digital economy. The success of our merchants in Melaka proves how technology can create new opportunities by boosting revenue and increasing consumer reach for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs),” he said in a statement today.

To further support the growth of MSMEs, Grab recently introduced the Merchant AI Assistant, an AI-powered feature integrated into the GrabMerchant app.

This tool helps business owners manage operations more efficiently by providing quick access to performance data, generating reports, and offering personalised recommendations to boost sales and customer engagement. It also streamlines daily tasks like responding to customer reviews and optimising promotions, allowing merchants to focus on growing their businesses.

Other initiatives to strengthen local businesses include Grab Dine Out Discovery and GrabMasterclass, which offer practical guidance for merchants on expanding their market reach and increasing long-term revenue.

Tan also noted that Grab, through its subsidiary GXBank, introduced GX Biz Banking—a digital financial solution designed to simplify business operations and accelerate growth.

“GX Biz Banking offers two key products: GX Biz Account, which can be opened in minutes with no fees and offers 1 per cent annual interest, and GX Biz FlexiLoan, which provides quick access to capital with no hidden fees and interest savings through early repayments.

“This combination of speed, transparency, and cost-efficiency makes GX Biz Banking an essential tool for small businesses to grow sustainably and efficiently,” Tan added.

One such success story is Ted Coffee, a cafe in Taman Paya Rumput owned by Marlina Mahmud, who credits various Grab initiatives, such as HotDeals and Combo Deals, for helping her café expand its reach and double monthly sales

“We’ve attracted new customers and built a loyal base. Platforms like Grab have been invaluable in helping small businesses grow sustainably,” Marlina said.

For Rahilah Mohd Fauzi, owner of Nasi Ayam Kampung Padang, joining Grab in 2023 led to a 150 per cent increase in sales within six months, from RM6,000 to RM15,000 a month, earning her business a 4.8-star rating and the status of a Grab Signature merchant.

“From starting as a street stall to becoming a neighbourhood favourite, our focus has always been on great food, affordable prices, and fast service. GrabFood has helped us reach more customers, while the HotDeals campaign has boosted our visibility and attracted new customers,” Rahilah shared.

In addition to empowering local businesses, Tan said Grab plays a role in promoting Melaka as a top cultural and culinary destination in Malaysia. Through a partnership with Tourism Malaysia, Grab connects visitors with authentic local food experiences, from street food stalls to heritage restaurants, supporting the development of Melaka’s gastrotourism sector.

“Melaka is not only a bustling business hub but also rich in cultural and culinary heritage. Grab aims to make these experiences more accessible to both locals and visitors. We’re proud to be part of the effort to strengthen the state’s position as a must-visit destination,” Tan said.

Tan added that Grab remains committed to empowering small businesses, improving community welfare, and supporting inclusive economic growth in Melaka as part of the state’s digital transformation.
