PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has left the Finance Ministry Office here at 3.30 pm this afternoon to go to Parliament to table the 2026 Budget.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, was dressed in a light blue baju Melayu while continuing the tradition of using local handicrafts, namely a black file bag with an embroidered woven pattern containing the 2026 Budget document.
The specially designed woven bag was manually produced by a disabled person Anthony Liew You Chung, 37, from Kuching, Sarawak.
The woven bag was made from recycled used nitrile gloves, while the bag-making process was completed by a social enterprise based in Kuching.
It is a symbol of the government's efforts in empowering vulnerable communities, supporting social enterprises and fostering the value of sustainability in national development.
Also present were Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
Earlier, before starting the journey to Parliament, Islamic Affairs Officer (Strengthening) of the Ministry of Finance Integrity Unit Muhamad Fierdauss Rosli led the prayer.
The Prime Minister only smiled and raised his hand in a positive gesture, when asked by reporters who had gathered at the building since 2 pm about the possibility of good news for the M40 group.
Budget 2026 will focus on efforts to protect the people, strengthen the economy and strengthen the foundation of a sustainable and inclusive country.
Budget 2026 will also continue to interpret the three main pillars of the MADANI Economy, namely raising the ceiling of national growth, raising the people's living standards, as well as good governance and public sector reform.
