NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 11 (Bernama) – The PKR Women’s wing has submitted a list of names, including new faces, to the party's top leadership to be selected as candidates to contest in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).
PKR Women's Chief Fadhlina Sidek said the list of women candidates put forward this time have extensive experience, solid background, and close ties with the local community.
"Certainly, those who have been selected have received a mandate from the party and support from party members and, undoubtedly, (they are) candidates who can win the upcoming state election, God willing," she told reporters here today.
The Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal said this when met after the Official Opening Ceremony of the Byram Estate Residents Resettlement Project here, which was inaugurated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Fadhlina, who is also the Minister of Education, said PKR Women is targeting 30 per cent of the candidates selected to contest in the PRN to be women.
"PKR Women is setting a 30 per cent target, as is usual. We are very confident that these candidates are those who have worked hard, contributed to the community and society, and are worthy of being nominated as candidates," she said.
In addition, she said that to ensure the party's nominated candidates win, the entire PKR Women's machinery is now in the final phase of preparation ahead of the nomination of candidates.
"As we know, the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has already been dissolved, and currently, the entire women's machinery, especially PKR Women, is making preparations, including helping to ensure the victory of our candidates.
"Our machinery is being prepared and will be mobilised throughout the seats that have been identified for candidates... in terms of support for the candidates, we will give our full support," she said.
On Oct 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that the Sabah State Assembly had been dissolved to pave the way for the 17th Sabah State Election.
The Sabah State Assembly has 79 seats, with 73 of them being contested and the other six being appointed Assemblymen.
