KANGAR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Air Space Sandbox project will open up broader opportunities for research and innovation across multiple sectors, including logistics, mapping, smart agriculture and security.
Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli said the initiative is aligned with the national aspiration to position Malaysia as a regional leader in aviation and drone technology.
He said the project would also support the development of highly skilled talent in aeronautics and unmanned systems technology.
“We deeply appreciate the trust placed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Ministry of Higher Education in UniMAP’s capability to strengthen the nation’s aeronautics sector,” he said in a statement today.
When tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Anwar announced an allocation of RM16 million for the aeronautics sector, with UniMAP set to develop the Air Space Sandbox in Sungai Batu Pahat, Perlis.
Zaliman added that UniMAP remains committed to leading high-impact research through a collaborative approach involving academia, industry and government.
