National Planning Congress 2025 To Drive Sustainable Urban Development

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- In line with the national-level World Town Planning Day 2025 celebration, the National Planning Congress (NPC) 2025 and MyCity Expo 2025 will serve as dynamic platforms to strengthen Malaysia’s sustainable urban development agenda.

Organised by the Department of Town and Country Planning (PLANMalaysia) in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP), the four-day event will run from Oct 28 to 31 at the Putrajaya Corporation, this year’s host city.

Themed “Urban Renewal: Planning Agenda for the People”, the celebration will address key urban issues affecting quality of life, such as income disparity, financial burden, family harmony, public safety and city image.

It will also feature the Malaysia Urban Planning Award (MUPA) 2025, which recognises excellence in town planning.

The four categories are the MADANI Sustainable City Premier Award, Smart Township Rating Award, Smart City Rating Award: Leading Smart City, and Best Planning Practice Premier Award, along with a special MIP Honorary Fellow Award for outstanding contributions to national urban development.

Meanwhile, the four-day knowledge-sharing session will feature the My City Run!, which promotes healthy living and unity, as well as the MyCity Expo, showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in urban planning.

A Student’s Placemaking Workshop on Oct 30 will connect professional planners with secondary school students, while the Young Planners’ Forum will allow emerging professionals to discuss sustainability issues and the future of urban planning.

The event’s highlight will be the High-Level Keynote and Dialogue session, featuring key regional figures including the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the Vice Governor of East Java Dr Emil Elestiano Dardak.

Other sessions include “Making Cities Work: From the Eyes of a Town Planner” and a Pocket Talk series, featuring best practices and innovation in the field.

NPC 2025, themed “AI Meets Urban Planning,” will explore three sub-themes, namely Towards Smart Governance: Leveraging AI for Data-Driven Urban Management, Digital Infrastructure for Resilient Malaysian Cities, and Urban Renewal and Regenerative Cities Through AI Innovation, in line with Malaysia’s move towards AI-based city planning.

Pre-event activities on Oct 27 include a Technical Visit to the Malaysia Urban Observatory (MUO) and PLANMalaysia, followed by a Congress Welcoming Dinner hosted by the Putrajaya Corporation president.
