12/10/2025 03:40 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 3,000 Indian families from the B40 community in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency received the Deepavali Vanakam MADANI food baskets in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration this year

Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the initiative is part of the 'Vanakam MADANI’ programme, the result of a collaboration between the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Constituency People's Service Centre and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), which aims to bring joy to the people and strengthen the local community economy.

"I hope this assistance will be of help somewhat to the Indian community by shining 'velicham’ (light), in conjunction with this year's Deepavali celebration,” he said in a statement today.

The Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives said the programme is not merely a welfare aid, but a symbol of the government's love and concern for everyone ahead of Deepavali.

"Every food basket carries a significant meaning, not just to help meet household needs, but also to fill their hearts with hope and renewed spirit. Deepavali is about light that shines from sincerity,” he said.

Ramanan said the food baskets are filled with various essential items, such as rice, cooking oil, muruku flour, adhirasam (denderam) flour, dhal and sesame oil and various types of cordial beverages - items synonymous with the Deepavali celebration, which falls on Oct 20.

He added that apart from the distribution of the food baskets in conjunction with Deepavali, the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency people's service centre also organised the MADANI Cooperative Sale in the Kota Damansara and Paya Jaras state constituencies with discounts of up to 50 per cent, among the highest nationwide.

Meanwhile, he thanked all the volunteers, government agencies and AIM for coming together to help ensure the success of the food basket distribution, in line with the spirit of the MADANI Economy.
