MADANI Govt Committed To Expanding Rumah Mesra Rakyat Programme

12/10/2025 07:06 PM

KULIM, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The MADANI government remains committed to building more Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) units nationwide to help the underprivileged, particularly the B40 group, own their own homes, says Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Chan Ming Kai.

He said the government would continue to support Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in ensuring that every Malaysian had the opportunity to own a home, as it was a basic necessity for all.

“Many people apply for low-cost housing, but the complicated process and long waiting time make it burdensome. If the management process can be streamlined, I am confident that everyone can qualify to own a home.

“The RMR programme is proof of the government’s concern in easing the people’s burden and improving their quality of life,” he said at the key handover ceremony for five recipients of the RMR houses in Kampung Badlishah here today.

Chan added that the government, which inherited debts from the previous administration, had successfully recovered RM15.5 billion through good governance measures implemented under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

“We have saved billions of ringgit, enabling the government to increase the number of RMR units to meet the people’s needs. The government wants to ensure that Malaysians are not burdened by housing costs, and the Prime Minister has always been attentive to issues related to the cost of living,” he said.

Meanwhile, SPNB chairman Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Azmi Mohd Lila said as of Sept 31, SPNB had completed 6,927 RMR units in Kedah, while 74,138 units had been built nationwide.

“SPNB remains committed to prioritising housing projects for all Malaysians under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), in line with the Malaysia MADANI framework to strengthen housing and public well-being,” he said.

One of the recipients, 27-year-old civil servant Muhammad Rahimi Jaafar, said he never expected his application to build a home on his father’s land would be approved, allowing him to begin a new life in his own house.

“I applied in 2020 and completed all documents in 2023. Within two years, thankfully, my home was completed. I’m very grateful to all parties, including the government, SPNB and KPKT, for making my dream of owning a home come true,” he said.
