SEREMBAN, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Police expect about 800,000 vehicles to enter Negeri Sembilan in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations this year, a surge of approximately 73 per cent compared to the 460,000 vehicles recorded on normal days.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the sharp increase is due to the festive season coinciding with the school holidays, which is expected to result in heavier traffic along major roads across the state.
“A total of 279 officers and personnel from the state Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will be deployed under Op Lancar from Oct 17 to 21 to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users.
“Monitoring and patrols will be intensified at 19 hotspot locations and three blackspots across the state, in addition to continuous enforcement operations throughout the period,” he told Bernama here today.
He said several routes are expected to experience congestion, including the North-South Expressway (Nilai to Pedas-Linggi), the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) (Pajam to Ampangan), Jalan Seremban-Kuala Pilah, and Jalan Seremban-Tampin.
Alzafny advised the public to plan their journeys in advance, avoid peak travel hours, and check real-time traffic updates via navigation applications such as Waze, Google Maps, or through official traffic information platforms such as the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).
“In addition, motorists should remain cautious when passing through high-risk or congested areas, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, practice safe driving habits, and use emergency lanes correctly - only during emergencies, except at designated SmartLane activation zones,” he said.
