KUCHING, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 29,177 Primary 6 pupils from 1,050 schools across Sarawak are taking the Ujian Penilaian Dual Language Programme Sarawak (UP-DLPS), which began today, marking a key milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and English education.
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the two-day assessment covers Science, Mathematics and English Language subjects taught under the DLP in selected Sarawak schools.
“The UP-DLPS is a Sarawak government initiative in collaboration with the State Education Department (JPNS) and the Examinations Syndicate, Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE),” he said in a statement today.
He added that all question papers were vetted and verified by Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUPA) to ensure international standards of validity and reliability in evaluating pupils’ knowledge and skills.
“Through this assessment, the Ministry aims to objectively measure pupils’ performance in Science and Mathematics taught in English and to identify areas for improvement. The results will be used to design customised intervention programmes that further enhance teaching and learning quality in DLP schools,” he said.
Sagah said the assessment represents a significant step towards enhancing English-medium STEM learning across the state, while supporting the state’s long-term strategy to prepare students for global competitiveness under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He also thanked the State Education Department, MOE, headmasters, teachers, parents and pupils for their dedication towards the success of the initiative.
