16/10/2025 07:08 PM

SEREMBAN, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Works Ministry (KKR) has estimated the cost of cleaning the six public buildings damaged by the storm in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, yesterday at RM1.9 million.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the premises involved are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, Sekolah Rendah Agama Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung, Kampung Medan Kemas Pre-school and the Sijangkang State Constituency Coordinator's Office.

He added that the estimated preliminary cost is not subject to repairs on damaged structures, and the actual cost will be revealed after receiving the repair method recommendations from the Structural Forensic Services Division.

"Severe storm resulted in critical structural damage to six main premises, including schools and government offices. So, the Public Works Department (JKR) acted swiftly by inspecting the sites, closing the high-risk areas and preparing the initial report within 24 hours.

"Only with that report will we know what the temporary, medium-term and long-term measures are. We are now focusing more on structural forensics evaluation and electrical safety before permanent repairs can start,” he said.

He told reporters this after officiating a groundbreaking ceremony for the first integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Malaysia at the Seremban (southbound) Rest and Service (RnR) area here today.

Yesterday, Nanta was reported as saying that the Selangor and Kuala Langat JKR are conducting structural inspections and safety assessments on several public buildings in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, that were damaged during the storm.

He said Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya sustained damage to its roof and the JKR advised the school authorities to suspend classes till the building’s structural safety could be determined.

Meanwhile, Nanta said no road maintenance work will be implemented on the routes involved throughout the hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit this month, to ensure smooth traffic flow nationwide.

He said this will be implemented as per the directive issued for festive seasons to prevent traffic congestion and ensure the road users enjoy a smooth journey, in addition to collaborating with the Malaysian Highway Authority, as well as highway concessionaires.

"During festive seasons, we do issue directives for road maintenance works to be halted to ensure smooth traffic flows. So, for the duration of the ASEAN Summit, the same directive will be issued because there will be lots of movements involving the government officials and the delegates,” he said.
