Melaka PMR: Politeknik Merlimau Offers Direct Admission To Eligible Engineering Students

17/10/2025 02:50 PM

JASIN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Politeknik Merlimau is taking a proactive approach by offering direct admission to eligible students in conjunction with the Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, currently being held at the institution’s grounds.

Head of the Student Affairs and Development Department at Politeknik Merlimau Melaka, Ahmad Syukri Mohamed Yunus, said the initiative was introduced specifically for admission into engineering diploma programmes, as part of efforts to attract more potential students to the field.

“In conjunction with the MADANI Rakyat Programme, we are offering direct admission to qualified students, particularly for engineering programmes, as participation in this field has been relatively low,” he said.

“So, interested students can visit our booth to check their eligibility, and if they qualify, we will immediately offer them a place at Politeknik Merlimau,” he told Bernama.

He said the approach aims to assist students who face difficulties with the online application process, as the current system only allows applicants to select study programmes without specifying the location of the institution.

He added that 36 polytechnics and 106 community colleges nationwide are currently accepting applications for the second intake session, scheduled for Dec 28 and 29, to identify qualified candidates for admission.

According to him, about 300 admission slots have been allocated for eligible students in the engineering field for the upcoming intake.

Ahmad Syukri also said that visitors attending the PMR have the opportunity to learn more about the courses offered at Politeknik Merlimau through various activities, including the Festival of Ideas exhibition.

“Through the Festival of Ideas, held at our complex, visitors can explore the fields of study offered at Politeknik Merlimau, including exhibitions on artificial intelligence (AI) and the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),” he said.

The Melaka edition of PMR 2025 opened today, featuring a variety of engaging activities, including community programmes, agency exhibitions and defence demonstrations.

Themed ‘Aspirasi MADANI: Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’, the three-day event at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin, is organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Melaka government.

The programme, which runs from 9 am to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday, provides a platform for various ministries and agencies to showcase their digital initiatives and services, while also allowing them to engage directly with the public.
