JASIN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) truck simulator, specially brought in for the Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at Politeknik Merlimau, has drawn strong public interest as it allows visitors to experience operating military vehicles firsthand.
Lt Cpl Jamylek Jaidih, who also serves as the simulator’s operator, said the equipment is used as part of basic training for military recruits before they qualify to obtain a military licence to operate three-tonne lorries in the field.
“This simulator gives visitors a first-hand experience of operating military vehicles, including facing field challenges such as driving in hilly terrain or navigating obstacles. It is designed to provide a realistic feel for users,” he told Bernama here today.
He said the three-tonne simulator is a version used by the Army in 2010, adding that there are currently two types of simulators in Malaysia - static and dynamic.
“The dynamic version is more advanced as it can replicate the actual movements of a vehicle, including vibrations when passing through uneven terrain. If the driver lacks confidence, they may experience dizziness or nausea, which helps assess their level of readiness,” he said.
According to him, the simulator received an overwhelming response from visitors, particularly school students who were eager to experience driving a military vehicle.
“Many students tried the simulator, and some even expressed interest in pursuing a career in the armed forces after experiencing it. Such exposure helps them better understand the real challenges faced by military personnel,” he said.
Themed ‘Aspirasi MADANI: Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’, the Melaka PMR 2025 opened today at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin, featuring a variety of engaging activities including community programmes, agency exhibitions and defence demonstrations.
Organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Melaka government, the three-day programme runs from 9 am to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday.
