KL To Remain Accessible During ASEAN Summit - SILA

17/10/2025 08:27 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN 2025 Main Logistics Secretariat (SILA) has assured that Kuala Lumpur will remain accessible during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, with traffic restrictions confined to a one-kilometre radius around the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) for delegates and authorised vehicles.

SILA head Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the traffic restriction area covers roads surrounding the KLCC, which will serve as the main venue for the summit from Oct 26 to 28, bringing together ASEAN leaders, dialogue partners and senior officials.

He told Bernama that traffic flow on highways and major roads subject to police-announced diversions would be limited to authorised convoys, with diversions implemented as necessary to facilitate the smooth movement of official delegations.

“Information and updates on road diversions will be provided from time to time through the media and social media. We would like to encourage the use of public transport to access the city centre if travel to the area is unavoidable,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDRM Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, said diversions and traffic dispersal will be implemented in phases throughout the ASEAN Summit.

Mohd Yusri said that these measures were taken to ensure the smooth movement and security of the heads of state and delegations involved.

He added that the police were fully prepared to ensure that operations throughout the conference period would run smoothly and achieve the set objectives.

“The priority for field officers is to ensure that road diversions and traffic dispersal are well managed," he told Bernama.

Mohd Yusri also advised the public to take proactive steps to avoid heavy traffic and difficulties during this period.

A total of six highways and 25 main roads around the Klang Valley will be diverted in phases, and 1,111 traffic officers will be on duty throughout the summit.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry in a Facebook post, announced that the police would conduct a dry-run of the road diversions from today until Oct 22 to ensure the smooth movement of delegations.

The diversions will involve routes from the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and the Subang Air Force Base to hotels around Kuala Lumpur, KLCC, and Seri Negara.

The public is still able to use the roads but is advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow the instructions of traffic officers.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, scheduled from Oct 26 to 28, will be the highlight of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, under the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability."

World leaders expected to attend the summit include United States President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
