KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- New Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee chairman Major General (Rtd) Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin has outlined 10 strategic priorities to strengthen the direction and effectiveness of the Scouts movement in the region for the next three years.

Among them are empowering the younger generation, innovating education, enhancing diversity and inclusivity, as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of Scout members.

Dr Mohd Zin, who is also a National Chief Scout, also emphasised the importance of valuing volunteers, strengthening governance, expanding reach, adapting to digital transformation, advancing peace and sustainability, as well as ensuring the movement remains relevant and influential.

"Scouting needs to lead change, not just move in parallel with it. We must make sure youngsters are groomed to face a world shaped by AI (artificial intelligence), digital transformation and global challenges,” he said at the 28th Asia-Pacific Scout Conference in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, today.

The conference, organised by the General Association of the Scouts of China, brought together about 400 representatives from 30 countries to celebrate past achievements and lay the foundation for the future direction of the Asia-Pacific Scout Movement.

The appointment of Dr Mohd Zin is also seen as a recognition of Malaysia's contributions in strengthening the Scouts leadership at the global level.

"Let this period be remembered as an era when Asia-Pacific rose boldly - united, inclusive and forward-looking,” he said.
