KUANTAN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Data Innovation Talent x DOSM Datathon 2025 (MDIT x DD 2025) aims to raise awareness among university students about the importance of data analysis and innovation.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), in a statement, said that the competition, which was organised in conjunction with the 2025 National Statistics Day celebration, is also a platform for students to develop skills in data analysis and the use of the latest technology software.
“In an increasingly data-oriented world, the ability to analyse and understand data is a very important skill.
“This competition also aims to provide students with educational prospects in the field of data science and foster critical thinking as well as provide opportunities to increase collaboration with professionals and industry,” it said.
According to the statement, MDIT x DD 2025, which involves the participation of students from institutions of higher learning, was officially launched by Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin today.
MDIT x DD 2025 is a prestigious national-level competition organised by DOSM in collaboration with the Statistics Club (InStats), College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam.
Themed “Innovative Solutions Towards a Decent Standard of Living in Malaysia”, the competition involved the participation of 93 teams, involving 372 students, from 24 institutions of higher learning nationwide.
The culmination of the competition, the final stage featuring the top ten teams, was held today, and the prize-giving ceremony will be held in conjunction with the National Statistics Day celebration to be held at Laman Sejahtera Jelai, Sungai Koyan 1, Lipis, tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with the ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025, DOSM will chair the 15th ASEAN Community Statistical System Committee (ACSS15) to strengthen statistical cooperation towards sustainable regional development.
The government has declared Oct 20 as National Statistics Day with "Statistik Nadi Kehidupan" as the theme for the celebration, while the Fourth World Statistics Day, also celebrated on Oct 20, has ‘Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone’ as its theme.
