GEORGE TOWN, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) aims to train and place 1,000 Indian youths in high-paying professional jobs through the Malaysia Indian Skills Initiative (MiSI) 2.0 this year.
Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the programme offers skill training directly linked to job opportunities, targeting significant improvements for youth from B40 families.
“My goal is to train and place at least 1,000 young people from the Indian community into professional roles with good salaries, such as engineers, technicians, and executives, which will help raise their income levels.
“While the target is 1,000 individuals, I believe this programme will create a ripple effect, inspiring more Indian youth to succeed and transforming an entire generation,” he said during his speech at the KESUMA Deepavali event organised by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) here tonight.
The event was officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, with PERKESO board chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal also in attendance.
Sim, who is also the Bukit Mertajam MP, said MiSI 2.0 goes beyond basic skills training, offering high-quality programmes designed to significantly change the future of participants and their families.
He noted that MiSI 2.0 follows the success of its predecessor, MiSI 1.0, and is being closely monitored by KESUMA to ensure that every investment has a direct positive impact on the Indian community, particularly the youth.
He also highlighted the success stories of three young Indians who, after completing MiSI 2.0, secured well-paying jobs with starting salaries of RM3,500.
One such example was M. Pravin Raj, 23, from Johor, whose father was injured at work and unable to support the family. Despite struggling to find a good job after university, Pravin enrolled in the MiSI 2.0 Software Developer Programme and, through KESUMA, secured a job as a software engineer at Dell with a monthly salary of RM5,000.
MiSI 2.0 is a results-oriented initiative, where participants undergo specialised training based on industry needs, with guaranteed job placement upon completion.
Training lasts between one and six months, depending on the sector, and participants receive an industry-recognised certificate. Key focus areas include Electrical and Electronics (E&E), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Aerospace, Global Business Services (GBS), Food Processing, Tourism, and Retail.
