Melaka PMR: Beyond Summonses And Helmets, Jpj Brings Road Safety Education To Community

18/10/2025 02:29 PM

JASIN, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Apart from facilitating the payment of summonses and helmet exchanges, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is also utilising the Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 as a platform for road safety education through advocacy sessions and interactive engagements with visitors.

Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the initiative aims to make the programme a ‘one-stop centre’ that not only offers services but also delivers important road safety messages directly to the public.

“We are also conducting short ‘pocket talks’ and advocacy programmes to raise awareness about road safety and the importance of using helmets that meet approved standards,” she told Bernama.

Siti Zarina said more than 3,000 helmets had been allocated for free exchanges over the three-day programme, targeting motorcyclists who brought in old or non-compliant helmets.

“The number of visitors has exceeded expectations. Based on the helmets distributed, 1,000 units were given out yesterday, and as of this morning, nearly 400 distributed,” she said, adding that the distribution is limited to 1,000 helmets per day.

Touching on efforts to curb repeat traffic offences among motorists, Siti Zarina said JPJ’s system enables users to check their previous records, including summons payments and demerit points.

She said the physical inspection counters provided at the site also help raise public awareness of the importance of complying with road regulations, particularly those related to vehicle licensing.

“Through programmes like this, visitors can not only check their records via the application or online, but also do so directly at the location, making it easier for them to settle summonses.

“Nowadays, many are aware of the importance of valid vehicle licences for BUD95-related matters. This indirectly encourages motorists to be more cautious and responsible, as they know any offence could affect their licence renewal process,” she said.

The three-day Melaka PMR 2025, which began yesterday at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin, features a variety of engaging activities including community outreach programmes, agency exhibitions and defence demonstrations.

Carrying the theme ‘Aspirasi MADANI: Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara’, the event is organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Melaka government.
