Defence Showcase Evokes Nostalgia, Inspires Youths At Melaka PMR 2025

19/10/2025 06:42 PM

JASIN, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The various military assets and equipment on display at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Melaka not only attracted young visitors but also evoked pride and nostalgia among Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans who attended the event.

For Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Lt Col (Rtd) Shaedi Abu Bakar, 64, the exhibition organised by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) felt like a journey back to his days at the RMAF air operations base, bringing back memories of serving alongside comrades.

“Most of the equipment showcased this time is new. When I saw the Skyhawk aircraft from the Air Force Museum, it reminded me of my days during operations.

“Our defence assets are now far more advanced, reflecting how far the country’s military capabilities have progressed,” he told Bernama.

He said such exhibitions were not merely for display but served as an excellent platform to bring the public closer to the world of defence, particularly to inspire the younger generation to join the MAF.

Meanwhile, Maj (Rtd) Mazlan Mat Atan, 69, formerly from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps, said the exhibition not only rekindled fond memories but also introduced the public to the reality and potential of military careers.

“I am grateful and pleased with the organisation of such programmes. It is not just about showcasing assets but also providing the public with an understanding of the sacrifices and strength of MAF personnel,” he said.

He added that the demonstrations and exhibits offered valuable exposure to the younger generation, many of whom might not be aware of the country’s defence capabilities and technologies.

“Programmes like this can also attract youths and keep them away from unhealthy social activities.

“Instead of loitering or street racing, it is better for them to come and see the nation’s defence assets and learn about careers in the military. It’s not often we get to see these assets up close,” he said.

Held under the theme “Aspirasi MADANI, Menjamin Pertahanan dan Kedaulatan Negara,” the three-day event was organised by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) under the Prime Minister’s Department, in strategic collaboration with MINDEF and the Melaka state government as co-organisers.

Notably, this year’s edition featured a special exhibition of military assets and equipment brought in by MINDEF, allowing the public to observe national defence elements up close and better understand the concept of Total Defence (HANRUH), based on the spirit of defending the homeland through the Whole of Government, Whole of Society approach.
