KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- With only six days before the 47th ASEAN Summit starts on Oct 26, the atmosphere around the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) is abuzz with activity as workers install structures, exterior decorations and do landscaping.
A Bernama survey today found various ASEAN-inspired decorations adorning the area outside KLCC, including sculptures and regional unity-themed decorations that add vibrancy to the environment ahead of the arrival of world leaders.
Among the most eye-catching features is a 10-metre (m) high, 20 m in diameter transparent dome structure showcasing flora and fauna, inspired by contemporary Malaysian architecture, which will be a focal point for ASEAN delegations and international dialogue partners.
Although the weather in the capital has been interrupted by heavy rain in the evenings over the past few days, preparation work in the KLCC area continues with technical staff and contractors seen diligently completing the installation of structures, decorations, and landscaping to ensure everything will be ready on schedule.
In addition to landscaping and lighting work, the area surrounding the KLCC, which will be the main venue for the summit, is also under strict security control. Police officers are stationed at every major route leading to the convention centre and around KLCC Park.
There was also a traffic control simulation this morning by the traffic police force to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and delegations throughout the summit.
Despite tightened security measures, the atmosphere around the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park remained lively with the presence of the public and tourists who took the opportunity to snap photographs around the ASEAN sculptures and decorations, which symbolise the region's friendship and spirit of unity.
The 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings to be held from Oct 26 to 28 are the culmination of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, which carries the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability."
The summit is expected to be the largest event in its history since it was first held in 1976.
US President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are among the world leaders expected to attend the summit.
