PPSPM To Hold Over 30 Events For FSSSM 2025 At The End Of This Month

MELAKA, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Over 30 interesting events await the estimated 30,000 visitors to the three-day Festival Seni Selat Melaka and Festival Sungai Melaka (FSSSM) 2025 from Oct 24 to 26 at Dataran Pengkalan Rama Pantai.

Perbadanan Pembangunan Sungai dan Pantai Melaka (PPSPM) chief executive officer Shaharul Azuar Idris said the festival celebrates the diversity of arts, culture and heritage along the Straits of Melaka in addition to strengthening the concept of cultural tourism in the state.

"This festival is a manifestation of appreciation to Sungai Melaka as a meeting point for culture and commerce between the East and West for centuries.

“Through it, we would like to see Sungai Melaka as a historical point and world heritage that united diverse races and introduce creative products, arts and local tourism to the global community,” he said at a media conference here today.

He also expressed hope that the events would result is two listings in the Malaysia Book of Records with the production of 50,000 Melaka Onde-Onde and the most traditional ethnic costumes worn throughout the event.

Shaharul said the festival featured spiritual values through the Subuh Macam Jumaat Campaign with Melaka Mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil at Kampung Hulu Mosque and Yassin and Thalil prayers at Fathur Rahman Mosque in Pengkalan Rama.

"In conjunction with FSSSM there will be a Saloma Market featuring over 40 stalls selling traditional products, talent contests, a local games carnival and a podcast by heritage researcher and writer Ninot Aziz.

"Various arts and cultural activities will be held including a Joget X Zapin competition, a Tourism Kebaya Queen contest, Traditional Costume campaign, water tourism activities and a Sustainable Culture Night featuring traditional and modern performances,” he said.

He said the Sustainable Culture Night was the highlight of the  festival and would feature performances combining historical elements, local expertise and contemporary entertainment to represent the continuation of Malay heritage.

Besides this, the festival also offers various attractive prizes, including a total of RM15,000 in the fishing contest.

“PPSPM also is offering a 30 per cent discount on Melaka River Cruise fares, including at Eco Cruise Tasik Chinchin and Eco Cruise Sungai Linggi for those who show up dressed in traditional costumes.

“We are convinced that this festival will be an important annual event in Melaka’s tourism calendar, strengthen the economy of local communities and lift up Sungai Melaka as a global cultural heritage site,” he added.
