23/10/2025 04:14 PM

SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Repair works at four schools in Sijangkang damaged by the storm that hit Telok Panglima Garang in Kuala Langat on Oct 15 are expected to be completed within three months, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the Education Ministry (MOE) has allocated RM10.1 million to repair Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sijangkang Jaya, which cater to more than 6,000 students.

“The damage involved mostly roof structures and main trusses. So far, repair works at SMK Sijangkang Jaya are 90 percent complete, and the building has been declared safe.

“Over 400 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates have returned to prepare for their exams starting Nov 2. Classes for the other three schools are still online until repairs are completed,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin said that he inspected the repair works this morning with MOE representatives and was briefed by Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) director Shukri Ishak.

He added that cleaning works at the affected schools were also undertaken at a cost of nearly RM1.9 million.

Amirudin said the state government, through JKR, the Kuala Langat District and Land Office and State Disaster Management Unit, will continue to closely monitor the progress of the repair works, with the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) prepared to consider additional funding if necessary.

“The state government hopes all restoration works can be completed as scheduled to ensure students can resume learning in a safe and comfortable environment,” he said.

Last Wednesday, four schools, a community hall and around 40 houses were damaged by the storm, which was described as one of the worst to hit Selangor in the past four years.
