23/10/2025 04:08 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ASEAN-India relations, saying he looked forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

In a post on X, Modi said he had a warm conversation with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during which he congratulated Malaysia on its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, and conveyed best wishes for the success of the upcoming summits.

“Look forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, and to further deepening of the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” he said.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be held from Oct 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, gathering more than 30 heads of state and government to discuss regional peace, economic resilience and inclusive growth.

Anwar, in an earlier statement, said Modi informed him of his decision to attend virtually due to Deepavali celebrations in India, and that both leaders discussed enhancing Malaysia-India ties to a more strategic and comprehensive level.

He said India remains an important partner for Malaysia in trade, investment, technology, education and regional security, and Malaysia will continue to enhance ASEAN-India cooperation towards a more peaceful and prosperous region.
