MELAKA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Various products made by prison inmates, including the viral frozen spiral curry puffs from Kajang Prison, are among the crowd-pullers at the Southern Zone edition of the Mypride Fair held at Kipmall Melaka, here, from Oct 22-26.
Melaka Prisons Parole Division chief Superintendent of Prisons Norul Hisyam Ismail said more than 15 sales booths featuring products from 10 prisons in Melaka and Johor, the Kajang Prison in Selangor, and the Inmate Reintegration Centre (PRP) in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, were participating in the event.
“Among inmate-produced products sold at Mypride Fair Southern Zone 2025 are frozen food, metalwork, woodcraft, fabric, fruits, and vegetables. We are targeting RM80,000 in total sales for this edition.
“In addition, reflexology services by inmates from PRP Mantin, a popular feature at all Prisons Department programmes, are also available at this fair,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after the official opening ceremony of the fair, officiated by Melaka Prisons director, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Rosman Norman @ Normin.
Norul Hisyam said a ‘happy hour’ sale offering discounts of up to 70 per cent on selected products was also being held to attract visitors and encourage the public to support the fair.
The Southern Zone edition of the fair marks the final leg of the programme’s nationwide tour this year, following earlier ones held in the Eastern, Central, Sabah, and Sarawak zones.
The organisation of the Mypride Fair aims to enhance the quality of prison-made products through skills training for staff and inmates, ensuring that the products meet high standards and can compete in the market.
“It also seeks to increase employment and reintegration opportunities for inmates after their release, while helping promote and market prison-made products directly to the public across the country,” he said.
