KADA Expects Padi Harvest To Be Completed Before Monsoon Season

KOTA BHARU, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) expects 94 per cent of its total 26,664 hectares of padi fields under its supervision this season to be harvested before the onset of the monsoon season.

KADA chairman Khalid Abd Samad said that so far, about 10 per cent or 2,500 hectares have been harvested, with an average yield of up to 4.5 tonnes per hectare. Another 15,000 hectares are expected to be harvested within the next two weeks.

“There may be slight delays for some farmers who started planting late, but we anticipate many will opt for an earlier harvest to avoid losses from potential floods,” he told reporters after officiating the KADA Entrepreneurs Carnival 2025 here today.

At the event, Khalid also presented grants totalling RM1.03 million to 42 entrepreneurs under the agency.

He added that as of Oct 22, about 6,449 tonnes of padi have been sold at collection centres, with average deductions ranging between 23 and 27 per cent.

“This contradicts earlier claims by some farmers of yield losses of up to 80 per cent, which were reported in the media,” he said.

Khalid also said KADA plans to expand its padi cultivation areas next year, focusing on districts like Tumpat and Pasir Puteh, supported by the upcoming completion of Kemubu 3 and 4 irrigation schemes in November, which will ensure sufficient water supply for farmers.
