IPOH, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Continuous downpour in Perak since morning has caused flooding in several areas, prompting the opening of three temporary relief centres in the districts of Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS), and Manjung, involving 180 evacuees from 44 families as of 9 pm tonight.
The Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, in a statement said the Simpang Halt Community Hall relief centre in LMS was opened at 7.30 pm, with the number of victims and families still being updated as the evacuation process continues.
In Manjung, the Sekolah Sungai Batu relief centre in Pantai Remis was opened at 8 pm, housing 180 victims from 44 families from Kampung Sungai Batu and Kampung Nelayan.
Another relief centre in Manjung at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai, Pengkalan Baru, was opened at 8.30 pm, with the number of evacuees from Kampung Padang Serai still being recorded.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level of Sungai Kampar at Kampung Baru Kuala Dipang, Kampar, has reached the alert level at 22.5 metres, compared to the normal level of 21.41 metres.
The Meteorological Department also forecast rain in most districts in Perak tonight, except for Kerian, Manjung, Perak Tengah and Bagan Datuk.
