PERHEBAT Eyes Collaboration with Strategic Industries In Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) aims to expand its cooperation with various strategic industries in Sarawak through the PERHEBAT Transformation Plan 2026-2035.

PERHEBAT chairman Prof Emerita Datuk Dr Roziah Omar said the plan forecasts collaboration with 200 agencies and private companies through various high-impact industries, such as energy, oil and gas, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and modern agriculture.

“This initiative has the potential to open up more job opportunities in Sarawak’s strategic sectors, thus supporting the state’s aspirations to achieve high-income and resilient status by 2030,” she said in a statement today.

According to her, the plan is a strategic effort of the Defence Ministry through PERHEBAT and driven by the private sector to enhance skills, expand job opportunities and encourage high-impact entrepreneurship that is compatible with the expertise and experience of army veterans.

“This plan strengthens the role of PERHEBAT as the Driver of Economic Sustainability for the Nation’s  Warriors, in line with its responsibility to ensure the continued well-being of future retirees and military veterans,” she said.

Roziah also officiated the Sarawak-level Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Veteran Entrepreneur Empowerment (PUVET) PERHEBAT Programme here yesterday, with the presentation of the Rural Entrepreneurship Enhancement Support (SPKLB) grant totalling RM42,000 to seven veteran entrepreneurs.

The PUVET MAF programme, which has been expanded to Sarawak for first time after 12 series of implementations nationwide since 2023,is proof of the Defence Ministry’s continued commitment through PERHEBAT to strengthen the socio-economy of military veterans.

The programme enables participants to meet industry entrepreneurs and support agencies to gain new knowledge and understand the industry developments, in addition to being a facilitator to identify and channel various entrepreneurial assistance to develop their businesses.

Meanwhile, PERHEBAT director-general Datuk Amir Md Noor said its presence in the job market would make the institution more dynamic and effective, as well as open up opportunities for skill matching and better quality jobs for its members.

“Through the PERHEBAT Transformation Plan 2026-2035, PERHEBAT will strive to achieve its goal of  producing sustainable socio-economic benefits and a better future for military veterans,” he added.
