“Under the economic pillar, we have concluded many of the key performance indicators.  In this case, we call it the priority economic deliverables.

“We are happy to present to the leaders this coming Sunday for adoption and notation,” he told reporters after the 26th ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC) Meeting today.

On Sept 22, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s (MITI) deputy secretary-general (Trade) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said Malaysia is confident it can achieve 15 of the 18 PEDs in time for the 47th ASEAN Summit.

The PEDs spearheaded by Malaysia will drive regional economic integration as part of efforts to establish the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

The AECC, one of the three ASEAN Community Councils, is the key coordinating body that oversees the work of the ASEAN Economic Community pillar.

The AECC Meeting is held in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits taking place in KLCC from Oct 26-28.

The summit is set to be one of the largest meetings in the bloc’s history, serving as a crucial platform to foster deeper collaboration while addressing regional and global challenges in a cohesive, inclusive manner.

This is the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the ASEAN Chair since the bloc’s inception in 1967, with the previous chairmanships in 2015, 2005, 1997 and 1977.
