Malaysia Reaffirms Commitment To Multilateralism At UN 80th Anniversary Event

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will reaffirm its commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the United Nations (UN) as the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) commemorates the 80th anniversary of the world body through a UN Day Commemorative Event here on Monday (Oct 27).

The event is held in conjunction with the 15th ASEAN-UN Summit, with the main highlights including a keynote address by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and an executive talk by UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres on the topic ‘80 Years of the UN: The Future of Multilateralism.’

Wisma Putra, in a statement on Friday, said the sessions would be streamed live via UN WebTV (https://webtv.un.org/en).

“The Commemorative Event attests to Malaysia’s long-standing cooperation with the UN and reaffirms the MADANI government’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and the world body,” said the statement.

According to Wisma Putra, the event would also feature a multi-stakeholder exhibition showcasing Malaysia-UN partnership, with participation from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ministry of Economy, as well as the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre.

The event brings together the many stakeholders working in partnership with the Malaysian government in advancing an inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development for the well-being of all Malaysians.

“They include the business community, parliamentarians, academia, think-tanks, youth, non-governmental organisations, members of the civil society, the diplomatic corps and international organisations,” said the statement.

Under the theme “Malaysia-UN: Our Shared Journey”, the event will take place from noon to 4 pm at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, with co-organisers being the UN Association of Malaysia (UNAM), the UN Country Team, as well as various ministries and government agencies.
