KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The United States (US) President Donald Trump will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from Oct 26 to 27 in conjunction with the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit and 20th East Asia Summit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Chairman of ASEAN 2025.
In a statement issued by Wisma Putra today, the ministry said this marks Trump’s first visit to the Southeast Asian region since taking office as the 47th President of the US in January 2025.
During the visit, Anwar and Trump are scheduled to have a bilateral meeting on Oct 26.
“Both leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, defence and security, as well as people-to-people relations, in line with the Malaysia-United States Comprehensive Partnership,” it said.
Wisma Putra also said that both leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual concern as well as signing documents on trade and security.
“This visit is anticipated to further strengthen relations between Malaysia and the US, paving the way for a new chapter towards even more strategic bilateral ties,” it further said.
It added that bilateral relations between Malaysia and the US have remained strong since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1957.
The US is among Malaysia’s largest trading partners and investors, with total trade valued at RM324.91 billion (US$71.39 billion) in 2024.
