Seven New Projects Costing Over RM400 Mln In Terengganu To Mitigate Flood Risks

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- A total of seven new projects worth RM410.37 million have been approved for the state of Terengganu under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) 2026 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently.

Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) director Ir Osman Abdullah said the approval was part of the federal government's ongoing efforts to strengthen irrigation and drainage infrastructure as well as flood mitigation measures in the state.

He said among the major projects approved were the Rusila Coastal Erosion Control Project, Marang worth RM140 million; the Sungai Buaya Local Flood Plan, Kuala Nerus (RM198.17 million) and the Anak Sungai Ibai Local Flood Plan, Kuala Terengganu (RM10 million).

"Also approved are the River Conservation Project to reduce flood risk (RM25 million); Line 28 Drainage System for Kampung Mak Chili Paya, Kemaman (RM29.5 million); Kemaman Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (PISMA) (RM3.2 million) and the Dungun River Basin Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study (RM4.5 million).

"Alhamdulillah, this approval will have a major impact on reducing flood risk and the well-being of residents in the affected areas," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the DID Phase 2 Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme Briefing with the Media here today.

Commenting further, Osman said that at the same time approval was also given to 18 existing extension projects, thus bringing the total number of projects under the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) 13MP worth RM2.21 billion.
